| Comments: The akee must be allowed to open fully or at least partly before it is detached from the tree. When it has "yawned", the seeds are discarded and the arils, while still fresh and firm, are best parboiled in salted water or milk and then lightly fried in butter. Akee is the national fruit of Jamaica. Because certain parts of the fruit are toxic when underripe, canned ackee is often subject to import restrictions. | ||||
